THE KOOPLES ARRIVE AT VQ | LEEDS

French designer retailer The Kooples  are to open their doors in The Victoria Quarter,  Leeds this Spring. Usually, the mere sight of a Kooples campaign makes our hearts flutter, so we had to do a double take whilst strolling past the shop front which is  temptingly  decked in posters of their stunning pastel  S/S wear.

We first came across The Kooples  brand whilst flicking through a Spring edition of Arise magazine, it was a question of ‘where are the scissors?’ and the image (above) of Johan & Mikaela made it’s way onto one of our inspiration boards. One look at Mikaela’s enviably cut suit & we’d truly fallen in love.

“Kooples” pronouced koo-pleuh is French slang for “couples”.  When it comes to The Kooples distinct ad campaigns, each image features an attractive couple whether they be friends or lovers, their ads highlight people with a real story in a glamorous & sometimes humorous way.

ROSITA BONITA

Rosita Bonita is a collection created by Camberwell College graduate, Rowenna Harrison. Her unique pieces begin as illustrations which are screen printed onto fine, coloured leathers and then carefully assembled using vintage chain.

Rowenna Harrison has been creating handcrafted jewellery and accessories in leather since 2009,  her original adornments that combine classic glamour with a sense of humour and the fun of dressing up, all lovingly handmade in Hackney, London.

Coming from an Illustration background (BA 1st class honours, Camberwell College, University Of the Arts, London), and with experience spanning across the diverse worlds of model making, set installation, costume  and jewellery design,  Harrison has developed a unique visual language along with a tactile & experimental approach to materials.

Hailing from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, Marina Nery is a stunning addition to the boards of Joy Starsystem, it is said she was introduced to the fashion industry by a model friend & debuted in 2010 at just 15 years of age (yikes). For us Marina strikes up that certain pizzaz, she reminds us of a time when the highest calibre of models were truly enigmatic and the term ‘fugly‘ was not à la mode in fashion press. Isn’t she lovely?

Who can resist these iconic albums covers playfully depicted in a world dominated by kittens? These photo recreations taken  from The Kitten Covers were created by artist Alfra Martini also known as Amyvisuals.

New York-based artist Martini described The Kitten Covers as a personal tribute to the classic rock albums that influenced her own career, she is a member of the band Virginia Plan and one of four founding members of ALL HANDS ELECTRIC an artist-run independent record label based in, Brooklyn NY.

Martini’s boyfriend singer/songwriter Zachary Cale suggested she make her manipulations into a blog, where things took off. When she’s not running her record label or making music,
