Her new album ‘Flesh Tone’ is a tight body of work offering 9 tracks of evocative lyrics, hypnotic repetitions and exhilarating beats. The hooks are familiar in places jumping between decades, with lashings of house yet carved with enough finesse to make it her own.
Kelis has always been a self-assured musician – which carries the album well, allowing us a further glimpse into her eclectic character, reassuring the ears this new direction is organic rather than a sales-chasing manoeuvre.
